After a harrowing night journey during which he is transferred to the Count’s private carriage, Jonathan arrives at the castle. During the drive, the passengers on the coach repeat “vampires” and “witches” and he sees blue flames as the coach is surrounded by wolves, which the driver (the Count in disguise) commands to retreat. He is welcomed into the castle by the Count himself. The Count is described as pale, with sharp teeth; Dracula does not eat with Jonathan.
