Dr. Seward finds Renfield’s birds have disappeared and discovers blood and feathers in the room. An attendant confirms Renfield ate the birds raw; Seward subsequently classifies him as a "zoophagous" (life-eating) maniac.
July 19, 1897
Renfield now has a "colony" of sparrows and begs Dr. Seward for a kitten. When Seward refuses, Renfield’s face shows a look of "homicidal" danger.
