Before dawn, Jonathan watches from a window as the Count crawls down the castle wall wearing Jonathan’s traveling suit and carrying the bag used to transport the child. Later that morning, a distraught woman appears in the courtyard demanding her child back; the Count summons a pack of wolves who devour her.
